Abstract

Background and Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of group therapy based on acceptance and commitment on loneliness and marital adjustment in women referring to counseling centers in Bam.
Method: The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all married women who referred to counseling centers in Bam due to psychological problems from August to October 1403. 40 people were selected as the research sample and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (20 people) and control groups (20 people). The research instruments were the Russell et al. Loneliness Questionnaire (UCLA) (1980) and the Graham Spanier Dual-Age Adjustment Scale (DAS) (1976). The experimental group underwent 10 90-minute sessions of acceptance and commitment therapy. Data analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of covariance.
Findings: The results showed that by controlling the pre-test effect, there was a significant difference between the post-test mean of the two experimental and control groups in the variables of loneliness (P = 0.01) and marital adjustment (P ≥ 0.01), which indicates the effect of acceptance and commitment therapy (P ≥ 0.01).
Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that this type of therapy should be considered as a psychological therapy for psychological empowerment, increasing marital adjustment, and reducing loneliness in women referring to psychological clinics and centers.
