Abstract

Background and Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of group therapy based on acceptance and commitment on loneliness and marital adjustment in women referring to counseling centers in Bam.
Method: The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a controlled pretest–posttest design. The statistical population included all married women who referred to counseling centers in Bam due to psychological problems between August and October 2024. A total of 40 participants were selected and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n= 20) or the control group (n= 20).  The research instruments included the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell et al., 1980) and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS; Spanier, 1976).The experimental group received ten 90-minute sessions of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
Findings: After controlling for pre-test scores, the results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in post-test scores for both loneliness (p ≤ 0.01), and marital adjustment (p ≤ 0.01) indicating the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, this type of therapy can be considered as an effective intervention enhancing marital adjustment, and reducing loneliness among women receiving such interventions.
