Read More Background and Objective: Life satisfaction is a construct of subjective well-being that refers to how individuals evaluate the quality of specific aspects of their lives, such as work, marriage, health, and recreation. This component is also related to the quality of more general aspects of life, such as happiness, enthusiasm for life, and peace of mind. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness of a health-oriented behavioral intervention on the life satisfaction of people with physical - motor disabilities working in government offices in Yasuj. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test study with a control group. The statistical population consisted of people with physical - motor disabilities working in government offices in Yasuj city, of which 40 individuals (20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group) were purposefully selected as the research sample. The subjects answered the life satisfaction questionnaire in the pre-test and post-test. Then, 8 sessions of a 90-minute health-oriented behavioral intervention were held for the experimental group, while the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed using Spss version 26and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Findings: The results obtained from the post-test comparison of the life satisfaction component (including satisfaction with family, friends, work environment, living environment, and self) in the two groups, controlling for pre-test scores, showed that the scores of the life satisfaction component of people with physical - motor disabilities who participated in the experimental group increased significantly compared to those in the control group (P ≤ 0.05). The highest satisfaction in the experimental group after participating in health-oriented behavioral intervention was "satisfaction with the living environment." Conclusion: It can be concluded that health-oriented behavioral intervention can be an effective approach to increasing life satisfaction among people with physical - motor disabilities. It is suggested that such research be conducted among people with sensory disabilities, such as the blind and deaf, and be included in the research priorities of relvant institutions.

Read More Background and Objective: A review of studies conducted over the last two decades on the epidemiology of suicide in Iran shows an increasing prevalence of suicide and suicide attempts in most provinces of the country, especially among adolescents and young people. This study was conducted with the aim of comparing stress coping skills, quality of life, and resilience between 15-25-year-old suicide attempters and normal individuals in Qom city. The research design was causal-comparative.Method: The statistical population of the current research was 2,640 people aged 15-25 who attempted suicide during 2021-2022 living in Qom city and referred to clinics, counseling centers and hospitals, from which 30 participants were selected through convenience sampling. Then, 60 normal participants were selected according to age, education, and marital status through convenience sampling. Endler and Parker (1990) coping with stress questionnaire, quality of life questionnaire (1986), May and Klonsky suicide attempt questionnaire (2013) and Connor and Davidson psychological resilience questionnaire (2003) were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) via SPSS version 25.Findings: Multivariate analysis of variance showed that the mean scores of problem-oriented coping styles, quality of life, and resilience among suicide attempters were significantly lower at the 0.05 level compared to those without suicide attempters. The scores of emotion-oriented styles in suicide attempters were significantly higher than those of normal individuals (p<0.01). There was also a significant difference between suicide attempters and normal individuals in quality of life and psychological resilience variables. This means that the scores of quality of life and psychological resilience in suicide attempters were significantly lower than those of normal individuals (p<0.01).Conclusion: This study identified factors that may protect individuals with suicidal ideation from progressing to suicide. Suicide prevention programs could be optimized by shifting from a deficit-based to a strengths-based approach throughpromoting resilience, enhancing quality of life, and reducing maladaptive coping strategies.

Prolonged Grief Disorder, Depression and Sense of Coherence in College Students

Read More Background and Objective: Prolonged grief disorder (PGD) has been introduced as a new disorder in the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and is characterized by main symptoms including intense longing, rumination about the deceased person, emotional pain, and impairment in daily functioning. Research has shown that depression is one of the strongest clinical predictors of grief. A sense of coherence is one of the factors that can play an effective role in the management and experience of grief. The present study investigated the relationship between sense of coherence, depression, and prolonged grief among university students. Method: This research employed a descriptive-correlational design. A total of 113 students from Zanjan Province were selected in 2021 usingconvenience and purposive sampling methods. Participants completed the Sense of Coherence Scale (1993), the Grief Experience Questionnaire (1998), and the Beck Depression Inventory (1996). Data were analyzed in SPSS version 22 with Pearson correlation and regression analysis. Findings: The results indicated that depression was significantly and positively correlated with prolonged grief (r = 0.75, p < 0.001), while sense of coherence was significantly and negatively correlated with prolonged grief (r = -0.55, p < 0.001). Additionally, a significant negative correlation was found between sense of coherence and depression (r = -0.27, p < 0.001). : The findings also revealed that the variables of depressive disorder and sense of coherence could jointly explain 83% of the variance in prolonged grief disorder. Conclusion: Tis findings show that the level of sense of coherence plays a significant role in navigating the mourning process and in either preventing or contributing to the development of prolonged grief disorder. Accordingly, a low sense of coherence is associated with an increased likelihood of experiencing prolonged grief disorder.

Read More Background and Objective: The present study aimed to develop a Beliefs in Fate and Destiny Questionnaire and to evaluate its validity and reliability using an exploratory instrument-development and validation framework.Methods: The research was conducted in three stages. In the first stage, the theoretical foundations and conceptual frameworks underlying beliefs in fate and destiny were reviewed. In the second stage, a preliminary version of the Beliefs in Fate and Destiny Questionnaire was drafted, and its content validity was asssessed. In the third stage, the instrument’s construct validity and reliability were evaluated. Using multistage cluster sampling, 240 participants (seminary students and Islamic Azad University students in Tehran) were selected. To assess convergent and divergent validity, the Death Anxiety Questionnaire and the Determinism and Free Will Questionnaire were administered, respectively, and the researcher-developed Beliefs in Fate and Destiny Questionnaire served as the primary instrument. Data were analyzed in SPSS-25 to calculate convergent and divergent validity indices, Cronbach’s alpha for reliability, and to perform exploratory factor analysis.Results: Exploratory factor analysis, using the scree plot revealed four factors within the Beliefs in Fate and Destiny Questionnaire. Divergent validity with the Determinism and Free Will Questionnaire was r= –0.70 among seminary students and r= –0.57 among Azad University students. Convergent validity with the Responsibility subscale of the Death Anxiety Questionnaire was r=0.33 in seminary students, with no significant correlation observed in the Azad University sample. Cronbach’s alpha for the total scale was 0.92. Finally, score interpretation guidelines were developed based on distributions of responses.Conclusions: This study developed a 49-item questionnaire with four subscales for assessing beliefs in fate and destiny. Given its demonstrated psychometric properties, the final instrument can be suitable for use in research contexts to measure belief in fate and destiny research.

Read More Background and Objective: One of the disabling factors in children is damage to social communication. Language pragmatics is one of the main components of social communication. The present study aims to evaluate and compare pragmatic ability in children with normal development and compare it with children with neurodevelopmental disorders.Method: This study was cross-sectional (causal-comparative). The statistical population was children aged 5 to 9 years in Tehran (1399-1400). 35 children with normal development and 119 children with neurodevelopmental disorders including autism spectrum disorder (24), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (25), attention deficit disorder (24), developmental language disorder (21), and social communication disorder (25) were selected non-randomly from 3 elementary schools and preschool centers as well as 11 rehabilitation centers. The diagnosis was made by a multidisciplinary based on observations, medical and family history, the American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic and treatment guidelines for mental disorders, and the results of the Language Functional Ability Questionnaire, Gilliam Autism Diagnostic Test-Second Edition (GARZ-2), SNAP-4, Newcomer and Hamill Language Development Test, Persian version of the Phonetic and Phonological Diagnostic Assessment Test, Iran-Stanford-Binet Test, and Children's Communication Checklist-Second Edition. Then, the mothers completed the Language Functional Ability Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance.Findings: The results showed that there was difference significant in all three factors “the conversational rules and speech acts” factor, “the context” factor, and “the social perception and interaction “factor between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Developmental language disorder (DLD), Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder (SPCD), and 35 children and normal development (p<0.001).Conclusion: Children with neurodevelopmental disorders have problems in all of the components of pragmatic abilities, therefore therapists these children should be able to assess pragmatic abilities and based on it, design special interventions for them.
